Oregon Congressman DeFazio Endorses Obama [UPDATED]

The Oregonian reports Congressmen Peter Defazio has endorsed Senator Barack Obama in his bid for the Democratic nomination for POTUS.

This is a snippet:

Tonight Rep. Peter DeFazio became Oregon's third Democratic congressman to endorse Sen.Barack Obama, putting the Illinois politician one delegate closer to the presidential nomination.

DeFazio said that Obama, who will begin a two-day campaign trip to the state Friday morning, "represents our best chance of winning in November."

"We must not allow Senator McCain to continue the failures of the Bush foreign policy, war in Iraq and disastrous economic policies," DeFazio added.

According to the Politico Superdelegate Counter, DeFazio is the 3rd superdelegate from Oregon to endorse Obama, joining Rep. Earl Blumenauer and Rep. David Wu.

Seven Oregon superdelegates remain undeclared.

UPDATE: Rep. Donald Payne (D-NJ) switched from Clinton to Obama. This is the ninth time that a superdelegate withdraws their support from Clinton to endorse Obama.

And the only superdelegate Clinton's got recently is from the congressional district she won in NC, right?

The day she got that one someone switched, so it canceled it out.

I'm all for 3-4 a day instead of all at once.

Absolutely. I'd be all for a very cathartic pace on the whole thing, let KY, OR, SD, MT vote and drive voter registration and Democratic infrastructure if it didn't seem like Clinton was bound and determined to destroy everything if she's not the nominee.

Re: Oregon Congressman DeFazio Endorses Obama (2.00 / 2)

She got one from NC because she won his district and I believe one from Indiana for the same reason. Tonight/tomorrow she is picking up one from Pennsylvania whose district she also won. She also lost one from Virginia. So overall she's +2 since tuesday and Obama is now +7 with DeFazio.

I use the handy (none / 0)

tool over at Dkos,

It is something akin to:

<.img src="http://www.lolfail.com/wp-content/upload s/2007/12/fail2it9.jpg" alt="" title="" />

without the dot before image

Re: I use the handy (none / 0)

one doesn't even need the alt or title tags.  Just <.img src="url here">

without the dot before img of course.

Wow that is easier (none / 0)

but the Dkos tool is very handy just copy/paste in the url and copy/paste  the html and bam picture.

Awesome... (2.00 / 2)

I just voted for DeFazio in the 4th District today.  He's voted against the war in 2002 and is a strong supporter of brining our troops home.  It was only a matter of time before he was going to endorse Obama.  I guess he was waiting 'til our ballots were mailed out.  Nice work!

Hell yeah, my congressman endorsed! There is going to be an Obama ralley at U of O tomorrow. I was thinking of not going since I went to the one in March, but if DeFazio is gonna be there maybe I'll go.

Just Thought I'd Add the Quote (2.00 / 2)

Rep. Donald Payne (D-10th Dist.), a New Jersey superdelegate who had been supporting Hillary Clinton for president, has switched his allegiance to Barack Obama.

"After careful consideration, I have reached the conclusion that Barack Obama can best bring about the change that our country so desperately wants and needs," Payne told The Star-Ledger for today's editions. It was "one of the most difficult decisions I have made," Payne said. "I've really been mulling it over for quite a while."

With Payne's switch Obama has the backing of five of New Jersey's 20 superdelegates. Clinton has 11, including Gov. Jon Corzine; three are uncommitted and one who has backed Clinton is wavering.

By announcing his support for Obama now, Payne said he hopes to help unite the party so it can focus on defeating Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, in November.

"At this particular time we need to really unite behind one candidate," Payne said. "It's time now for us to pull our party together. The quicker it's over, the better we'll be able to bring all of our forces together."

Re: Good I was helping out with (2.00 / 2)

That poor freeper troll's diary was deleted a minute ago, but to answer your question:

To do the strikeout thingy, use this tag: <s>words</s>

For the longest time, I couldn't figure out how to do it. I kept trying to use the traditional HTML tags, but it didn't work. But I think SluggoJD explained it. He uses it a lot when he does those "Karl Rove's friend" diaries.

I think I'm starting to like our buddy ilovebillnot. He's always good for a bit of entertainment. That diary wasn't as funny/offensive as usual, though. Losing his touch, I suppose.

I'm sorry but Oregon is too critical.

I watching Obama act like he's got the nomination and the Obama campaign doing this crap for months and you have no idea what an outrageous turn off it is for me.

Now DeFazio, who usually has integrity does this.

Re: Oregon Congressman DeFazio Endorses (2.00 / 2)

At this point, even seating MI and FL according to the January results isn't going to stop the flow of superdelegates to Obama.

He'll get the Utah add-on tomorrow as well.  It's very possible he passes Clinton among superdelegates by the end of the weekend.

262 to 268.5 (the half superdelegate being a Democrats Abroad one).
